Lexus to Unveil RC F GT Concept During Long Beach Grand Prix

Concept fills gap between RC F and RC F GT3 race car

During the 42nd Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach this weekend, Lexus will debut the RC F GT Concept, which fills the gap between the street-legal RC F and the RC F GT3 race car that will soon compete in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.

Developed in parallel with the production RC F, the GT Concept will retain the same 5.0-liter V-8 engine and transmission, but feature modified lubrication and cooling systems, along with a performance exhaust. Thanks to heavy use of composite materials, the RC F GT Concept will shed nearly 800 pounds when compared to the standard RC F.
“The GT Concept shows the opportunities of the platform and powertrain that underpins our F models,” said Jeff Bracken, VP and GM Lexus division, in a release. “The high performance RC F coupe and GS F sedan are geared toward enthusiast drivers and make a very strong statement about Lexus’ engineering capabilities.”

During the Long Beach Grand Prix, Scott Pruett and Roger Yasukawa will pilot the concept between races. Pruett will also be one of the drivers for the WeatherTech championship, and is known as the winningest active drivers in North American sports car racing. Yasukawa has been a performance driver for Lexus since the launch of the IS F back in 2007, and has raced in Toyota-powered IndyCars, IMSA GT cars, and Formula Atlantics.
