Amy Ruman, Chevrolet take TransAm victory in Classic Tube 100 at Watkins Glen.!!
Amy Ruman won the TransAm TA class race at Watkins Glen this weekend.
Ruman maintains championship lead with big win
When
Chevrolet driver and defending TransAm TA class champion Amy Ruman
claimed the Classic Tube 100 victory at Watkins Glen International (NY)
on Sunday, more than just the checkered flag was in the air. Snow was as
well.
Cold temperatures affected the third round
of the season in more than just the end-of-race snowfall, with the
first lap of the race run under caution due to warm tires and chilly
air. That was the only lap Ruman didn’t lead, as her No. 23 Corvette
passed Cliff Ebben and pole sitter Paul Fix from the third starting spot
soon after the green flag.
Fix dropped to the
back of the field after a four-tire change following qualifying, and
Ebben battled Ruman throughout the majority of the race before his No.
36 Ford Mustang had a power-steering failure with 21 laps left. Ruman
led an all-Corvette top five in the race, with Jim McAleese, David
Pintaric, Simon Gregg and Claudio Burtin rounding out the top five.
With
another win in the books, Ruman maintains the championship lead in the
TA class with a total of 87 points. Kerry Hitt moved up to second after
the race with 65 points, and Pintaric sits in third with 58 points.
