New TT RS available with multiple body styles
The 2016 Audi TT RS is the most powerful version of this sports car ever to grace the highway, the manufacturer confirmed. It comes in Coupé and Roadster form; the latter of which has an electric fabric roof that can be opened/closed in about 10 seconds, at up to 31mph.Engine and performance
Both the Coupé and Roadster have a 2.5-litre, 5-cylinder, petrol engine that produces 400PS and 480Nm of torque between 1,700 and 5,850rpm. Expect 0 - 62mph in 3.7 seconds (Coupé) and 3.9 seconds (Roadster) which equates to “supercar rivalling performance”, Audi said. Top speed is 174mph but can be electronically limited to 155.In previous forms, this 2.5-litre, TFSI, turbocharged, power plant claimed the International Engine of the Year title 6 years in succession. Votes came courtesy of an international jury of motoring journalists. Enhancements for the 2016 Audi TT RS include:
- lighter weight construction,
- reduced friction between internal components,
- 17% increase in performance.
7-speed transmission
The 2.5-litre engine sends power to a 4-wheel-drive system via 7-speed, dual-clutch, S tronic transmission. Audi revealed that the lower gears are “short” - which helps drivers pick-up speed quickly – whereas seventh is fairly “long” to minimise fuel consumption.S tronic also enables motorists to cruise in full-auto mode, or select any gear manually via paddles behind the steering wheel. Audi argued it: “combines the sporty characteristics of a manual gearbox with the advantages of an automatic.” Also, the dual-clutch element ensures there is no “appreciable delay” when changing cogs.
